Stitch for Syria

This week I am hoping to finish my Stitch for Syria cross stitch square. IMG_2286Once it’s finished, I will be sending it to Concern Worldwide UK, where it will be made into a wall hanging with all the others squares they receive. This wall hanging will then be given to a women’s training centre, where Syrian and Lebanese women are taught skills, like embroidery. This not only help them to earn a living but to escape their worries for just a little bit as well. The wall hanging will send a message of hope and solidarity to these women, in such desperate times.

As a big fan of crafting, I find it a great a form of escapism and so relaxing. I think the Stitch for Syria campaign is a fantastic way for the UK crafting community to show their support and I’m delighted to be a part of it.

If you would like to join in with the campaign and get stitching, using this simple pattern designed by Mr X Stitch, you have until the end of April to send off your square. I have used this fabulous multi-coloured embroidery thread from Anchor. Search for #StitchforSyria on Instagram and Twitter to see what others have been doing. I better get finishing mine!
