Yesterday marked the first day of spring and the sun was shining – hopefully a sign of things to come! George and I made the most of the good weather and jumped on our bikes.
We headed to Gloucester Docks to dodge the traffic and begin a 10 mile ride along the Gloucester to Sharpness canal towpath to Frampton on Severn.
It’s a really good cycle path, with lots to spot on the canal, from rowers training and swans swimming to narrow boats chugging and people fishing. There’s plentiful views across the Gloucestershire countryside beyond the canal as well.
Along the way we stopped for a picnic on the grass verge at the side of the path and for drinks at The Pilot Inn in Hardwicke and Stables Café at Saul Junction. We finished at The Bell Inn in Frampton on Severn, which overlooks the village green. Then it was time to head the 10 miles back, as the sun started to go down.
When the days start drawing out, I hope to cycle all the way to Sharpness!
