Winter Getaway to Lanzarote

I’ve just returned from a last minute getaway to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, with my husband. A week of 20 degree heat on a shoestring, to escape England’s winter was just what we needed!

Lanzarote wasn’t exactly on our ‘hit list’ but we wanted a cheap break and a bit of winter sun to relax in; that’s exactly what we got. The island has a rugged and dry landscape and unlike some of the other Canary Islands, does have lots of white sandy beaches. We found the beach resort of Playa Blanca really reasonably priced, especially at the beach end, away from the marina. FullSizeRender.jpg
Most of the holiday was spent lazing by the pool and drinking and dining (way too much!) along the beachfront. We did manage to squeeze in a 10 mile bike ride to Papagayo Beach though, albeit because it was a cloudy day! I tried wreckfish (pictured below) for the first time at the café here and it was so good. The burgers at Chacho Fresh Burger and pizzas at Casale Franco are worthy of a mention too and we couldn’t leave without sampling Spain’s most famous dish, paella.IMG_4338.JPG
If you’re heading to Lanzarote in the winter (we went at the end February) then do look beyond the unique but somewhat baron volcanic landscape of the island, arrive with a broad mind, a jumper or perhaps a coat for the chilly evenings and you, like me, will leave with happy memories!IMG_4344.JPG
